Maya Annik Bedward is a Jamaican-French Canadian director working in film and television. After living in Brazil and the UK, Maya returned to Toronto and founded Third Culture Media.
Visually powerful and sonically rich, her films explore history, politics, and pop culture through bold, genre-bending storytelling. Her work has screened at TIFF, SXSW, Hot Docs, Fantasia, Thessaloniki and BlackStar.
Maya has also directed episodes for LIDO TV (CBC Gem), FARM CRIME (CBC Gem), and BLK: AN ORIGIN STORY (History Channel, Global TV). She is a fellow of the DOC Institute Breakthrough program and the EFM DocSalon Toolbox Programme. She has also produced two podcasts.
Dedicated to fostering a more equitable and inclusive industry, Maya is a founding member of the Black Screen Office and a mentor for the OYA Black Arts Coalition Emerging Filmmakers Program.
Her first feature BLACK ZOMBIE is set for a US Theatrical Release with Kino Lorber this Fall 2026.
